Videoclip analysis "Demasiadas mujeres" - C. tangana

Today we will analyze the music video "Demasiadas mujeres" by singer C tangana. It´s part of his album "El madrileño" premiered in 2021.
The video begins with a gentleman calling next to a cross. From the space we are in, we can identify that it is a zone of Spain. Drums and trumpets play in the background playing Joselito’s song “Campanera” evoking the Spanish society of the 1950s. Throughout the song we will hear in the background the rhythms of this sonata. From the surroundings, the houses and the clothes of the people we can understand that we are in an Andalusian village.
From the successive images of women washing clothes and laying them out, a child on a bicycle, legs walking with horses in the background and several men dressed in black carrying a white coffin, we understand that we are at a funeral.
Next is the cross that we saw at the beginning next to a white reminiscent cloth. It reminds us of those who wear crosses during Holy Week next to the title of the song in red. The red in the title tells me that it wants to symbolize the color of blood.
The group of women in the picture pretend to wear mourning clothes, nevertheless, and according to the dress codes of the Spanish society it tries to represent, these clothes would not be suitable for a funeral.
Next, we can see the artist singing in a church.These images will alternate with those of a woman dressed as a manola. C tangana stands next to a priest to whom he is confessing all his sins. He is wearing a sleeveless t-shirt, which is an informal dress for visiting a church.
In addition we see a woman dressed as a manola, with a mantilla, representing the mourning for the death of Christ. Moreover, and along with a black and white spiral that contrasts the Christian tradition we are following in the video clip with the festive lights that are transmitted in the song. Among these images, an image of the Virgin appears, conveying that similarity between the woman and her.
Next, we can see a child on a bicycle, who could represent innocence in the face of the perversion depicted in the song. This child finds himself in front of the men carrying the coffin. We might think that the video clip could be such a Catholic representation in contrast to the sins that the song conveys as lust and greed, represented by men. However, the pure image of the child could represent all the ideas of the church.
While transporting the coffin to the cemetery we see a lot of Christian symbols, like a father with a cross. We can also see that the sticks to transport the coffin are faced by a crucified Christ. The white mantilla next to the coffin we can think is the one we saw at the beginning of the video. Also the passage and the march remind us of the processions of Holy Week, except that the saint is a coffin. This could symbolize a similarity that the dead should be praised, as much as the Christian religion praises Jesus.
Then C tangana is seen next to a woman in a hallway with an illuminated cross. This shot runs through the corridor and we see that it is a woman dressed in red with a ponytail. “la que me dijo que siempre pa' siempre estaría pa' mí” that can be Rosalia. And by after all this happens, he kissed her passionately, in the middle of the church, in front of the Virgin, returning again to the contrast with the puritanity of the Catholic Church.
We continue with several manolas in different veils and Christian symbolisms in contrast with spirals and shapes. Returning to this contrast between the life of lust and greed of the protagonist and the morality of the Christian religion. And in the middle of all these pictures is the cover symbol, a Virgin depicted with big earings, with a close fitting neckline and a cigarette in her hand, again symbolizing the clash between the Catholic mentality and the mentality of the song.
Finally, we go back to the cemetery, where all these women continue to mourn with an informal dress code watching the coffin arrive at the cemetery. Once he arrives, everyone begins to weep, representing the death penalty of someone so admired, as said before, once again making a similarity between the artist and Jesus Christ.
What does the child symbolize during the videoclip?
We can assume that this child symbolizes the main characters innocence, as we have stated before whilst talking about the scene in which the child confronts the coffin. Could the child represent solely purity, or does it symbolize also the main character´s memory from the past?
To conclude, who is the person being buried?
Personally, I think is the main character, who, after its dead, he relates his life throughout the years. In other words, he exposes lust, sins and greed together with contrary ideas shown on the videoclip. We can add to this that over the entire music video we can see all the women that formed part of her life.
On the other hand, we can think that the person being buried could be the girl dressed in red clothes, as the girl is not on his Life, her bring there symbolices the ausence of her in his life.
